Abstract
This article proposes an analysis of the novel “El perro de la escribana” (1982) by Maria Luisa Mendoza, a text in which arbitrary and subject‟s gaze will become basic tools where national, cultural and gender identities take root. In this book, its past depends only on the symbolic authority of those speeches outlining the memory.
