Abstract

This article studies the aesthetical significance of Alain Robbe-Grillet’s
narrative objectivity, paying special attention to his novel La Jalousie. In this sense, a parallelism is established between the use of the mechanisms of density and discontinuity in the narrative texture of this novel, and the cuts that the Italian- Argentinean artist Lucio Fontana made on the canvasses he named Attese. Analysing both cases from the perspective of the Aesthetic Theories —specifically, the contributions of Heidegger, Barthes or Derrida—, the article tries to show how the cut constitutes a fundamental mechanism in contemporary art.
