Abstract

This paper aims to determine, in a corpus of Chilean Spanish, the presence, frequency and meanings of evidential strategies. The results show that, for this dialect, the semantic domain of evidentiality is conveyed, at least, by the future simple and the future perfect, the conditional simple and the conditional perfect, the pronoun uno, the second person singular, the construction ―determinant + tal + proper noun‖ and dequeísta structures. Evidential meanings conveyed are reportative / quotative, ―personal source and universal access‖ and ―source and access shared between speaker and listener‖.
